D.A.CH. 2007 â€âCœ The weapons of a Woman

20 Chess Computer enthusiasts from Austria, Germany and Netherlands traveled to the Bavarian city of Kaufbeuren to play in this year’s D.A.CH tournament. This 7th D.A.CH. event was once again perfectly organized by the organizers Kurt Kispert, Günther Steinmüller, Alwin Gruber and Wiktor Rawik.

Eighteen dedicated chess computers were entered into this friendly chess computer tournament and once again this year camaraderie and enjoyment was the main theme of this event, rather then success of winning with a machine. Due to the wishes of the competitors, the tournament was split into two groups of 9 machines. Both groups played a 1 game round robin against each machine. Group A was played by the traditional “heavyweights”. This year’s entries were Mephisto Atlanta (Rainer Migas), Mephisto London 68030 66 MHz TM (Erwin Biri), Mephisto Montreux (Alwin Gruber), Mephisto Genius 68030 (Robert Weck), Tasc R30 V2.5 (Hans van Mierlo), Saitek Sparc (Dirk Heidtfeld), Saitek Risc 2500 (Frank Jäger), Mephisto Polgar 25 MHz (Ruud Martin â€âCœ a creation of Ruud whose entry was not to be missed) and the winner of the 3.Online WM, the Fidelity Elite 68060 "V11" (Sabine Kesting â€âCœ This machine was kindly made available for this Event by Bernhard Lederwasch).

This was the 4th time in a D.A.CH. tournament for the “V11”. Although it’s past performances were not bad, the big success of winning D.A.CH. had previously proven to be elusive. It required the delicate female touch and leadership of Sabine to bring out the latent power of the “V11” and steer it to an astounding 7.5 points out of 8 games thereby pulverizing all it’s opponents and leaving the operators of all the other machines admiring the power of the “V11”. A deserving 2nd place was reserved for Mephisto Atlanta with also a convincing 6.5 points. In 3rd place, 1.5 points behind was Mephisto London 68030 66 MHz TM.

This year’s form of the “V11” shows that it refuses to be beaten and we look forward to following its play in the forthcoming 4. Online WM. For this event Hans will again be taking over the controls of the “V11”. He might want to ask Sabine for a few tips!

Group B also had a strong field of ELO 2000 machines comprising of classics and rarities (referring of course to the machines and not to the operators ) that started: Mephisto Amsterdam (Bernhard Lederwasch), Fidelity Designer 2265 Master (Wiktor Rawik), Novag Super Forte C 5 MHz (Wolfgang Spiekermann), Mephisto MM V (Alexander Riedel), Mephisto Modena (Gernot Holm), Mephisto Super Mondial II (Franz Wagner), Millennium Genesis (Kurt Kispert), Mephisto Rebell 5.0 Prototype (Helmut Hoffmann) and Novag Diablo 68000 (Michael Völschow). The strongest and expected favorite for Group B before the tournament began was Novag Diablo 68000. But naturally this pre tournament start ranking might be considered as not substantiated since the author and operator of the Novag Diablo 68000 are one and the same . Secondly, the Novag Diablo 68000 has so far never been able to show it’s true class in previous tournaments. The beaten down machine and battered operator finished in 6th place with 3.5 points out of 8 games. From start to finish in Group B, there was an exciting head-to-head race between Mephisto MM V und Fidelity Designer 2265 Master, but finally in the end MM V deservedly finished in first place, half a point ahead of second place. The head-to-head win against Fidelity Designer 2265 Master was decisive. Finishing in 3rd place was Novag Super Forte C 5 MHz.

Kaufbeuren 2007 - The Movie (from Helmut Hoffmann)

Helmut
