A short history about Mephisto
Die Firma Hegener & Glaser (Mephisto)
- 1969 in München von Manfred Hegener und Florian Glaser zur Halbleiterproduktion gegründet
- 1978 die beiden Programmierer Thomas Nitsche und Elmar Henne kommen mit H+G in Kontakt
- 1980 das "Mephisto" Markenzeichen entsteht. Das Brikett -der erste deutsche Schachcomputer- programmiert von Thomas Nitsche und Elmar Henne, erscheint auf dem Markt.
- 1983 bis heute, "Mephisto" wird in Deuschland zum Synonym für Schachcomputer
- 1984 mit Richard Lang und seinem Psion chess (Gewinner der WMCCC 1984 in Glasgow) beginnt die lange Serie von WM Erfolgen
- 1989 über 90% aller in Deutschland verkaufter Schachcomputer sind Mephistos
- 1989 H+G übernimmt "Fidelity Electronics Inc." für ~7 Millionen US $
- 1990 der Markt für hochpreisige Schachomputer bricht ein. Grund hierfür ist das Aufkommen leistungsfähiger Intel 486er PCs bei gleichzeitigem Angebot an preiswerten und leistungsstarken Schachprogrammen
- 1992 H+G's Schulden belaufen sich nun bereits auf 28 Millionen DM
- 1992 Ed Schröder gewinnt mit Gideon 3.1 (Mephisto Risc 2) die offene 7. Schachcomputer Weltmeisterschaft WCCC - also nicht die der Micros (!) - vor Großrechnern und Spezialhardware
- 1994 H+G wird von "Saitek Ltd." für ~ 7 Millionen DM aufgekauft
- 1994 Richard Langs Genius (Mephisto London) schlägt Garry Kasparov beim Intel World Chess Grand Prix Turnier in London auf einem Pentium Prozessor
- 1997 Manfred Hegener und Ossi Weiner gründen die Firma "Millennium 2000 GmbH Hegener & Weiner" und produzieren den "Millennium Schachpartner 2000", welcher für 99 DM verkauft wurde.
- 2005 Resurrection :-)
