Gruppe B hatte als Ziel die WM '81 in Travemünde nachzuspielen. Dort gab es 2 Gruppen (Verkaufsgeräte und Experimental-Software) und Mephisto wurde aus fragwürdigen Gründen ausgeschlossen.
Wir haben beschlossen beide damaligen Gruppen zusammenzulegen und Mephisto zu integrieren. Bei der WM wurde mit Turnierbedenkzeit gespielt, wie üblich ging es bei uns mit 30 Sek/Zug zur Sache. Da einige Geräte keine derartige Stufe haben durfte eine Näherung bis max. 45 Sek/Zug gewählt werden - die betroffenen Geräte (ESB II, Morphy, Conchess, Robot) hielten die Bedenkzeit dennoch gut ein, im Gegensatz zu den beiden Fidelitys die trotz 30 Sek/Zug Stufe häufig überzogen. Alle anderen Geräte hatten eine passende Spielstufe. Der Conchess hatte mit einigen technischen Problemem zu kämpfen (Reed, schwergängige Tasten) und spielte daher unbemerkt die Runden 1-4 nur mit 15 Sek/Zug, erst in den letzten beiden Runden waren ihm die 45 Sek/Zug vergönnt. Im letzten Spiel (Runde 6) ging der Elite Champion kaputt (Einbruch des Tastenfeldes) und wir werteten die Partie in ausgeglichener Stellung als Remis.

Nicht alle Geräte aus Travemünde waren zu bekommen, daher haben wir speziell für die Experimentalsoftware möglichst ähnliche Ersatzgeräte gewählt:
